Regeneration in Woolwich

I (Esther) spent a fantastic afternoon in Woolwich yesterday with writer Sarah Butler. Sarah and I have worked together before and are planning a public art regeneration project for Woolwich. So, yesterday we went to meet the lovely people at The Greenwich Heritage Centre (http://www.greenwichheritage.org/) and Firepower Royal Artillery Museum (http://www.firepower.org.uk/). It was very exciting to be shown a tiny glimpse of their archive collections - we were shown things as diverse as Spike Milligan and Frankie Howerd's signatures when they joined the Artillery there, amazing old posters with stunning typography, and even cabinets of vast butterfly collections!

Sarah and I are hoping to use the collections as inspiration for a writing and visual arts education project there next year. In the meantime its inspired me to hook out my copy of Interpreting Objects and Collections, to refresh my head on the debate on how we relate to material culture and why we're so obsessed with collecting :)
